Subscription payments give you full control over how and when you charge. Choose the billing cycle, how long the subscription runs, and whether to offer a free trial or an upfront fee.

What You Can Set

Billing Cycle

  • Weekly
  • Monthly
  • Quarterly
  • 6-monthly
  • Yearly

Subscription Duration

  • Until cancelled: Charges continue every cycle until the customer or you cancel.
  • Fixed number of payments: Charges stop automatically after the number of payments you set.

Free Trial

Offer a free trial of up to 365 days. The first charge happens after the trial ends.

Upfront / Setup Fee (Optional)

Add a one-time fee on top of the subscription price, charged at signup.

Key Points

  • Mix and match: You can combine any billing cycle with a trial, a setup fee, or a fixed number of payments.
  • Fixed payments end on their own: No need to cancel manually once the last payment is made.
  • Trial and setup fee are optional: Use them only when they suit your offer.

Common Examples

  • Monthly membership: Charged every month until cancelled.
  • 6-month payment plan: Charged monthly for a fixed number of 6 payments.
  • Yearly plan with a 14-day trial: Free for 14 days, then charged once a year.
  • Coaching program with onboarding: A one-time setup fee at signup, plus monthly payments.

FAQs

Can I offer a free trial and a setup fee together?

Yes. They're independent options and can be combined.

What happens when a fixed-payment plan ends?

Billing stops automatically after the last payment. The customer isn't charged again.

When is the customer first charged if there's a free trial?

After the trial period ends.

Is the setup fee charged every cycle?

No. It's a one-time charge at signup.

Troubleshooting

  • Customer was charged before the trial ended: Check the trial length set on the product and the customer's signup date.
  • Subscription stopped earlier than expected: It may be a fixed-payment plan that has completed all its payments. Check the number of payments set on the product.
  • Setup fee not charged: Check that the fee is enabled and has an amount on the product.
